Empowering Young Girls with Dignity

At DABO Kids Foundation, we believe that every child deserves to grow up with dignity, care, and opportunity—especially young girls. In many communities across Uganda, girls face deep challenges when it comes to menstrual health and hygiene. Lack of access to proper information, products, and emotional support leads to missed school days, low self-esteem, and sometimes even shame.

This month, we took a bold step to change that.

Through our Menstrual Health and Counseling Program, we reached out to several schools and communities where we gathered young girls between the ages of 10 to 17. Our team of female health workers and counselors created a safe, supportive space for these girls to express their concerns, ask questions, and learn more about their bodies.

The sessions covered essential topics such as:

  • Understanding menstruation and the changes in the body

  • How to manage menstrual hygiene safely and affordably

  • Emotional well-being during periods

  • Building confidence and breaking the silence around menstruation

Most importantly, every girl left the session with a Menstrual Health Kit, which included:

  • Reusable sanitary pads

  • Soap and a small towel

  • A discreet pouch

  • Educational materials on hygiene

For many of these girls, this was the first time they received any formal education or support about menstruation. Their smiles, questions, and grateful words reminded us why we do this work.

We are proud to empower these girls to embrace their womanhood with dignity—not shame. And we are thankful to all our partners, donors, and volunteers who make programs like this possible.

Let’s keep building a world where no girl is left behind because of her period.

Support a girl today. Support dignity. Support DABO Kids Foundation.
